An irate customer fired gunshots at a McDonald's restaurant in the US following a menu dispute, police have announced.

The incident occurred after a female visitor had her order rejected when she tried to use the drive-through service at the Salt Lake City diner.

Workers refused to serve a lunch meal to the woman early on Sunday morning because only the breakfast menu was available.

Following the rejection, two male passengers left the vehicle and one pulled a shotgun from the car boot, before using it to fire gunshots at the drive-through window.
